Which is the best day to apply for a Job?

Updated: Nov 21, 2019

Job searching! For most, it can be a rather daunting task. You know the drill, you go on the internet to your favorite job search engine, whether its Indeed, Simply Hired, Monster, Career Builder etc., you type in a job that solicits your interest, you read through the job description, it sounds interesting, you review the qualifications, and you seem to be a perfect fit. After you are convinced in your own mind that you are the person for the job-you apply. Now, this is where the fun part begins, after you apply you wait, and wait, and wait, and wait some more, then you wait a little bit longer.

A couple of days go by, maybe even weeks. Now you begin to check your outbox and sent messages, trying to see if your resume went through. After not being contacted within a couple of days or weeks, you've come to the conclusion that you weren't considered for the job.

Now, keep in mind, just because you weren’t considered for the job, doesn’t mean that there aren’t other positions that are out there.

But what if you could increase the chances of your resume being viewed? What if it was a SPECIFIC DAY of the week you can send your resume in that will increase the chances of it actually landing in the hands of the hiring manager? Would you apply on that day? Well of course you would!

Which is the best day to apply for a job?

According to a recent study done at Bright.com, the absolute best day to apply for a job is on Monday. The studies show that someone who applies for a job on Monday has a 30% higher chance than someone who applies on any other day of the week. The reason Monday is the best day to apply for a job is simply because it is the start of a fresh week. People tend to be more motivated during Mondays, they are in their office looking at emails that may have come in late on Friday or over the weekend. While they are looking at emails that they missed, guess what’s right there along with those emails? That’s right! Your resume!

Now I know you may be asking, will applying on Monday really increase my odds of getting hired? On its surface, it may sound a little superstitious, but there have been multiple studies showing this. In fact, a brand new study from one of the top hiring platforms found that the most job posting, application and hiring activity happens on Monday.

Data shows that over 200,000 North American jobs, the majority of applicants send in their resumes at the beginning of the work week (which is a smart move).  Although Monday is the perfect day to actually apply for the job, studies show that Tuesday in particular is when the consideration actually takes place.

Tuesday is also the most popular day of the week for companies to make hiring decisions, with 21.5 percent of candidates being hired on this day. If we want to step things up a notch, jobs are actually posted from 11 a.m. and applied to at about 2 p.m. Taken together, these findings mean that candidates are reacting quickly when they spot a good opportunity.

In fact, most applicants will see and apply to position just days after it hits the job boards, the study found Just as a note, just because Monday is the best day to apply for a job, does not mean that it is guaranteed that you will make it to the next round. Also, not all companies operate under similar conditions; so these results may vary but all in all, Monday is the best chance you have at an employer viewing your resume. Good Luck!
